Berner’s closing doors, seeking buyer

Berner’s Flower Shop is closing its doors at the end of the year after serving the McComb area for nearly 70 years.

The East McComb shop just isn’t the same since the owner, Toy Palmer, died in January at the age of 80.

ASAP aims to aid city shelter

A group of volunteers and friends of the McComb Animal Shelter is in the process of creating an organization that will lend a helping hand to man’s best friend.

The board of directors for the newly formed Aiding Shelter Animals Project (ASAP) is working to provide assistance to the numerous animals in the system.

Few funds for fire station

East McComb desperately needs a new fire station, but the city can hardly afford to put one there.

City officials said Tuesday that the only usable bid to build a new Fire Station No. 3 came in at $773,800 — more than $400,000 than what the city can spend.
