    Parklane junior high boys track team earns district title

    The Parklane Academy junior high boys track team took home top honors at its MAIS 4A District 3 meet, which took place Wednesday at Madison-Ridgeland Academy.

    Austin Helus and Ryan Bradford act as coaches for the 10-man squad, which tallied 114 total points in the event.

    Keep Pike County Beautiful’s former executive director was charged with embezzlement on Wednesday morning. 
    Pike County sheriff’s deputies took Jeffery “Jay” Wilson into custody at his house, where they served a search warrant.

    Smokin' on the Tracks returns next weekend in Summit

    Smokin’ on the Tracks, Summit’s annual barbecue festival featuring two days of food, drinks, live music and other activities, returns next week. 
    The fun begins at 6 p.m. Friday, when about a dozen barbecue teams  will set up to cook all night, competing for prizes for the best pulled pork, chicken, ribs and brisket.

Southwest's baseball team hosted the No. 24-ranked Gulf Coast Bulldogs on Wednesday in a doubleheader that saw the Bears win 12-2 and 5-0.

Brookhaven Academy product Matt Newman started on the mound for the Bears in Game One. Newman pitched five innings with five strikeouts and only one run allowed, picking up the win for SMCC.
