McComb Electric Supply Co. has been providing southwest Mississippi with an array of appliance and lighting needs since 1948. Now, the store is a wonderland for avid foodies as well.
Along with the store’s traditional offering of stoves, washing machines, refrigerators, lighting, generators and the likes, owner Richard Moore keeps adding kitchen tools. And customers are loving the quirky and functional gadgets.
“We have continually added to it over the last two years,” he said. “We put a few things out and people responded to it.”
Like a kid in a candy store himself, Moore walked around McComb Electric showing off “all kinds of neat little things.” He demonstrated pliable mixing cups that can be squeezed to form a spout for more accurate pouring. He pointed out an oil container that has a built-in herb infuser.
“It’s almost like a toy store,” he said.
Tired of hard butter? Moore has just the thing. The colorful Butter Bell crocks keep butter perfectly spreadable, yet fresh, while sitting out on the counter.
“It’s a real popular gift,” Moore said.
Less whimsical, but still impressive is McComb Electric’s collection of Henckels cutlery, which comes with a lifetime warranty.
“We have Henckels knives. You buy them and you don’t have to buy them again,” he said.
For all those holiday cooking needs, the store carries bottles of prized Mexican vanilla extract, along with non-stick USA Pan bakeware, the famously hardy Staub cookware and Lodge cast iron products.
Need a way to display holiday treats? The store carries several Wilton Armetale collegiate serving dishes.
“This time of year the big deal is cooking,” Moore said.
He sees many people come in for stove and oven parts, gearing up for a season of heavy use.
For those really looking to jazz up their kitchen, Moore has impressive kitchen ranges by Bertazzoni and Wolfe.
Moore combines the store’s wide selection with hands-on customer service. He takes the time to figure out customers’ needs and provides them with the best options available.
“It’s not just throwing a product out the door. We meet the needs,” he said.
Moore also is willing to go toe-to-toe with his big box store competition.
“We can be as competitive on products as the home stores can be,” he said.
McComb Electric now offers gift cards and gift wrapping. This holiday season there will be sales and promotions on appliances, he said.
