Hospital nets 5-star ratings

Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center has earned a new HealthGrades Five-Star Rating for orthopedics for the 2011-12 period, and was rated No. 2 in the state in general surgery.

Southwest Health System CEO Norman Price told hospital trustees on Tuesday that the orthopedic rating was for hip fracture treatment.

By all accounts, Thomas Riley Brumfield lived a quiet, modest life in McComb, retiring as an Illinois Central Railroad engineer and spending the last 10 years of his life at an assisted living facility.

The Yazoo County native was a World War II Army veteran and moved to McComb to work for the railroad, starting out as a fireman.
