Otken Elementary School students received backpacks and books Tuesday through the Kansas City Chiefs’ Kingdom United Program, which aims to teach the importance of reading and promote diversity and unity. Chiefs cornerback Charvarius Ward, a former Otken student, selected the school for inclusion in the program.

Hospital sees big drop in COVID patients

Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center is finally getting some breathing room in its volume of COVID-19 patients following sharp reductions in cases, both in the county and statewide.
As of Monday morning, the hospital had just nine coronavirus patients — only one of whom was vaccinated.

Museum officials hope to save part of depot
