McComb selectmen hired a new city clerk at the recommendation of a city board member last week.
The board voted 5-1 to hire Ellisha Ford of Gloster as the full-time clerk with a salary of $64,514. Selectman Ronnie Brock, Donovan Hill, Devante Johnson, Ted Tullos and Shawn Williams voted in favor of hiring Ford. Selectman Micheal Cameron was the lone vote against.
Johnson brought his recommendation in as an amendment to the regular board meeting agenda and distributed her resume to the board.
Ford was working for the town of Bude as a city and court clerk from the January 2017 to now. Before that she was a deputy clerk. She is a certified municipal clerk.
The board took a moment to read over the resume and voted with little discussion.
During a work session Tuesday night, the board discussed a 3% raise for all employees. Selectman Devante Johnson asked if that would apply to Ford.
Human Recourses Director Donjurea Davis said she believed it would take board action to give her that raise because they set her salary and effective date for Nov. 14, which is well into the second month of the new fiscal year.
Myers said he believed he had the authority to give her the 3% raise without board action.
This comes after the board voted to demote former clerk Rosezea Scott during an extended executive session in August, which caused a minor issue with the city’s bills, requiring multiple attempts in special called meetings that ended with City Administrator David Myers obtaining signing power to pay bills.
Before Scott, the city had been without a clerk over most of the summer, Myers originally said he had difficulty finding qualified candidates until Scott decided to apply.
