1 dead in wreck with bus

A Pike County woman died and three other people were injured Saturday in a head-on collision involving a car and a charter bus in Magnolia.

The accident occurred about 4:33 p.m. on Highway 48, near West Gate Baptist Church.

Toni Alexis Scroggs, 19, of Summit, died at the scene.

Susan Ammons of Lancaster, Pa., left Pike County last week with 18 stitches in her leg due to an unprovoked pit bull attack.

The dog paid the ultimate price, as it attacked a responding sheriff’s deputy, who was forced to shoot it, Chief Investigator Bruce Fairburn said.
