Southwest softball pitcher Allie Ladnier is signing with Spring Hill College to continue her academic and athletic career.
In 35 games as a freshman, Ladnier posted a .304 batting average with 31 hits and 32 RBIs to go along with 10 doubles and one home run.
Ladnier also recorded 64 strikeouts in 18 pitching appearances her freshman year before sustaining a back injury.
So far through her sophomore season, Ladnier has recorded a .326 batting average with 29 hits and 25 RBIs to go along with seven doubles and eight home runs.
But most notably, Ladnier has been a force on the mound for the Lady Bears as a sophomore, as exemplified by her throwing the third no-hitter in SMCC history during a 5-0 win over Mississippi Delta on Thursday, March 26.
With a 10-4 record so far, Ladnier has appeared in 21 games and produced 90 strikeouts for Southwest.
“Going back home was a big thing," Ladnier said when asked why she chose Spring Hill College. "Also, I’ve always wanted to go there, I just didn’t choose the four-year route out of high school. I always felt like that was home."
“Being here [Southwest] taught me how to deal with adversity, especially being injured last year. Having to make it through my injury last year, being out halfway through the season then I was out for six-and-a-half months. So, coming back from that and having the season that I’m having right now was a big thing,” Ladnier said.
“Allie and I met her sophomore year in high school, and I knew she was special then. I felt like her upside was tremendous, and as you can see a healthy Allie and what she’s able to do. I can’t say enough about the kid, not only as a softball player but as a person, a Christian, and a young lady,” Ladnier's head coach, Shea Johnson, said.
