Southwest's softball team traveled to Moorhead on Thursday to play Mississippi Delta in a doubleheader that saw the Lady Bears win both games, 5-0 and 13-1.
Allie Ladnier pitched all of Game One for the Lady Bears and threw the third no-hitter in program history with no hits and no runs allowed to go along with 12 strikeouts, leading the team to a 5-0 win.
All five of Southwest’s runs came in the third and fourth innings.
The first two runs scored on a Corin Talbot single.
The next run came on an Allie Ladnier sacrifice fly to move the score to 3-0.
The final two runs were scored on a Madalyn Ashford single and Corin Talbot single to put the score at 5-0, the eventual final.
Corin Talbot led the team with three hits. Bailey McLin, Jana Phillips, and Madalyn Ashford each had two hits. Tristan Allen also had a hit.
Jana Phillips stole a base in Game One.
Corin Talbot led with two RBIs while Allie Ladnier and Madalyn Ashford both had one.
In game two, Ballard Kraft started on the mound for Southwest.
Kraft pitched three innings with two strikeouts and only one run allowed while picking up the win for the Lady Bears.
Mary Claire Salley came in to pitch an inning, allowing no hits or runs and picked up a strikeout.
Skyler Turnage pitched the final inning and allowed no hits or runs.
The Lady Bears came out swinging in Game Two with an impressive 11 runs scored in the first inning on 10 hits, including a home run from both Lauryn Roebuck and Alexis Dejean.
Allie Ladnier led the team with three hits, including two doubles. Corin Talbot, Bailey McLin, Kate Clements, and Madalyn Ashford each had two hits. Alexis Dejean, Addison Taggard, Tristan Allen, Aubre Martin, and Lauryn Roebuck all had a hit.
Lauryn Roebuck led the Lady Bears with five RBIs. Alexis Dejean followed suit with three RBIs. Allie Ladnier had two RBIs and Bailey McLin, Corin Talbot, and Tristan Allen had one RBI apiece.
“You know, Allie throws a great no-hitter in the first game. We came out in the second game and had ten hits in the first inning and blew it open. Of course, you know you can breathe a little more,” head coach Shea Johnson said. "Then we went to our staff and every kid got the opportunity to play. And they all showed why we recruited them. We didn’t miss a beat."
The Lady Bears (21-5, 8-2) play Itawamba at home on Saturday, with first pitch of the doubleheader set for 1 p.m.
