Pike County sheriff’s officials said North Pike is under “no current threats of harm to the school district” after investigators tracked down the origins of an online threat to out-of-state social media users.
School resource officers contacted the sheriff’s department Monday after intercepting an online threat of an attack involving knives, guns and other weapons against the school “on the North.”
Class went on without any major disruption, although there were reports of parents picking up children early throughout the day as more officers than usual remained on campus.
Sheriff officials determined the threat originated from out of state after tracking down screen names from a social media account from which the threat had been posted.
“Through the investigation, detectives were able to determine the threats came from two individuals out of the state and there are no current threats of harm to the school district,” sheriff’s officials said in a statement.
Sheriff’s officials did not release where the threats came from , but they said federal authorities and local agencies in that area also are working on the case.
