A passer-by rescued a state trooper from his burning patrol car after a wreck Friday in Wilkinson County, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
A state trooper, who was not identified, was responding to a call for service when he crashed at 8:38 p.m. Friday on Highway 61 near the state line, MHP spokesman Cpl. Craig James said.
The trooper’s 2018 Dodge Charger left the roadway, struck a culvert and caught fire, James said.
A witness to the crash stopped, broke a window and helped the trooper escape the burning cruiser, which was upside down.
The trooper was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge for treatment or minor injuries.
