A Monticello police officer shot and wounded a person who allegedly threatened the officer with a weapon on Wednesday, officials with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation said.
Police officers encountered the person near a gas station, and the suspect drew weapon on them while getting into a vehicle, MBI officials said. The officer fired his weapon, striking the suspect.
The suspect went on their own to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
None of the officers were hurt.
MBI is investigating the incident, as is the case with most officer-involved shootings. Investigators will forward their findings to the Attorney General’s office.
