Officials have called off the search for a Pike County woman who has been missing for more than a week and is presumably lost in or around the vast Homochitto National Forest.
An official with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the suspension of the search effort on Tuesday afternoon, saying that officials made the call after resuming the search for Lottie Elaine Myers that morning.
The 73-year-old, whose relatives said has Alzheimer’s, was tracked to the McCall Creek community in Franklin County, where her Jeep Cherokee was found abandoned on a roadside. A person in the area told authorities Myers said she was looking for her husband when asked if she needed help, but she declined assistance.
Myers is believed to have left her house on Willis Cotton Road in northwestern Pike County a little before 2 p.m. Oct. 28.
