Two upcoming concerts — the first by country singer-songwriter Jeff Bates and the second by Southern soul hitmaker Arthur Young — will be held at Oak Hill Estates this month to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network.
Bates will perform a 90-minute set at 6 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $35 in advance, $45 at the door. Young takes stage at 7 p.m. Oct 29.
RE/MAX Southland Real Estate is the sponsor.
“Agents help Children’s Miracle Network hospitals support millions of kids each year by making a donation in their client’s names after each closed transaction,” said Debbie McWilliams, owner of Oak Hill Estate and an agent at RE/MAX.
“But we like to hold large events to raise more money, and this year we are striving for more. Proceeds go to the Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson.”
A Marion County native, Bates is no stranger to McComb.
“Bates mentions McComb in one of his songs,” McWilliams said. “I plan to ask him about it when I meet him.”
The song “My Mississippi” references McComb in the line, “The songs got better, I put a band together and we played our first gig at a little club in McComb.”
Vine’s 2.0, Mitchell’s Catering, Cha’Quan’s Catering and Taste & See Cakes & Catering will supply appetizers for the event on Saturday.
On the 29th, blues musician Israel Coleman will open for Young at 6 p.m.
Young is a trucker from Summit whose song “Funky 40” has had more than 6 million views on YouTube.
“This will be Arthur’s first time performing in Pike County,” McWilliams said. “We originally wanted both Bates and Young to perform on the same night, but there were some scheduling issues so we decided to do two separate concerts.”
Last year, RE/MAX held a cake decorating tutorial fundraiser that was a huge success.
“Cakes were supplied by Broadway Deli and it was so successful that the McComb office won the Miracle Office award,” she said.
Donations made by local businesses will be auctioned off at the event. The items donated include two large pottery planters from Williamson Nursery, furniture and a TV stand from Lott Furniture, a ceramic rabbit from the Flower Nook, an Inspirational book donated by Expectations Too, a necklace and lotion gift set from Three Sisters Boutique, a landscape painting from Gretchen Felder, a night stay and pillows from the Hampton Inn;
Also, two fold-up chairs from Shelter Insurance, a charcuterie board from Chris Gipson, a McCarty pottery rabbit from Gulf/South Art Gallery, a whole ribeye from Piggly Wiggly, sunglasses from Chuck Barnes, a custom art pet photo from Ruth Fruedenthal, and a night stay at Brentwood memories.
