Thursday is Freedom Day, and Dr. Stephanie Ricks Family Dentistry is offering free hygiene and same-day dental service by appointment only to veterans, active military, firefighters, law enforcement officers and EMS personnel.
“We are the only dentist in the state of Mississippi that participates in Freedom Day,” said Christine Fiorella, the office’s business administrator. “This will be our third year.”
Local businesses that have donated gift cards for patients include McAlister’s Deli, Broadway Deli, The Dinner Bell, PJ’S Coffee and the Breakpoint Marathon.
“We put together gift bags for every patient along with the gift cards,” Fiorella said. “It’s always such a rewarding day. We love seeing the smiles on their faces.”
The turnout wasn’t great the first year because of Covid, but had a great turnout in 2021. This year Ricks and her staff are trying something different.
“The first two years we only offered free services to veterans and active military, but we wanted to open it up to our local firefighters, EMS and law enforcement,” Fiorella said. “It’s a great opportunity that some of them might not have or be able to afford.”
