State education officials will outline literacy requirements for the parents of children in kindergarten through third grade at a meeting next week in McComb.
The meeting, set for 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, in the McComb High School cafeteria, is one of nine such meetings being held across the state.
Mississippi Department of Education officials said they plan to give families an overview of a state law called the Literacy-Based Promotion Act, which requires students to pass reading tests in order to advance to the next grade.
Officials also plan to outline strategies that parents can use at home to help students improve their reading.
