McComb’s Junior Flag Football League is set to host its second community outreach event this Saturday, as JFL Inc. is putting on a clinic centered around how to properly handle police interaction and community safety for boys ages 13-20 in the area.
Marcus Gatlin, McComb School District’s Safety Director, and his wife Tanekia started the JFL in order to provide young kids in the area with a sports league to compete in over the summer. After getting the JFL up and running, they have now expanded to do events focused on mentoring the youth of the area.
In mid-August, the Gatlins hosted an event centered around learning basic car mechanics and talking about self-worth in the first “Equipping Boys To Be Men” lesson.
From noon to 2 p.m. on November 16, the JFL will host an event where speakers will talk about proper weapons safety, how to handle police interactions and the relationship between the police force and its community at Southwest Mississippi Community College’s Holmes Student Union.
Guest speakers Alex Miller, a chief in the Summit Police Department, and Juan Cloy, Chief of Police for McComb, will join Marcus in speaking on these topics.
If interested, parents can sign their kids up by contacting either Marcus (601-248-2769) or Tanekia (601-551-2769). A link to register is also available here.
