Debra Blackwell avoided a runoff and was re-elected to a second term as 6th District circuit court judge, while a runoff will determine who else hears major court cases in Amite, Franklin, Wilkinson and Adams counties.
Blackwell was reelected to the District 6, Place 2 position with 5,649 votes (56%), defeating challengers Timothy David Blalock, who had 3,126 votes (31%), and Elleen M. Maher, who had 1,355.
In the Place 1 seat that Judge Lillie Blackmond Sanders is retiring from, Carmen Brooks Drake earned 2,768 votes (42%) to advance to a Nov. 29 runoff against Blackmon’s sister, Lydia Roberts Blackmon, who finished second with 2,560 votes (40%). Scott J. Pintard finished in third place with 1,197 votes.
Here’s a look at totals by county for the election.
Amite County
Blackmon finished with 612 votes in Amite County with Pintard following at 279 and Drake at 202. Blackwell finished with 1,577 votes in Amite County, Blalock had 972 votes and Maher had 339 votes.
Adams County
Drake had 1,583 votes in Adams County, Blackmon had 1,143 and Pintard had 507. Blackwell earned 2,645 votes in Adams County, Blalock had 1,240 votes and Maher had 699 votes.
Franklin County
Blackwell finished with 1,427 votes in Franklin County, where only the Place 2 judicial race was on the ballot. Blalock followed at 914 and Maher finished at 317.
Wilkinson County
Drake finished with 983 votes in Wilkinson County, where only the Place 1 race was on the ballot. Blackmon followed with 860 and Pintard had 411.
