Two people face multiple charges in connection with reports of identity theft that took place in the area last month, Pike County sheriff’s officials said.
Several people reported having their identity stolen in early January, and an investigation led detectives to Cayla Jade Lawrence, who sheriff’s officials allege had obtained the victims’ personal information and Social Security numbers and altered checks to commit fraud.
Acting on a tip, investigators from Pike and Amite counties searched a house on Isaac Road, which crosses the county line, and found the personal information “of other potential victims,” Pike County sheriff’s officials said.
Lawrence was charged on Feb. 8 with fraud, identity theft and uttering forgery.
Bradley Mitchell also was charged in the case with uttering forgery, conspiracy and obtaining personal identity information for unlawful acts.
A news release didn’t disclose what connection the pair had to the victims, how they allegedly obtained the information or what they obtained with it.
Sheriff’s officials said Monday that both were being held with no bond set.
More victims may be involved in the case, officials said.
