Williams, Thompson advance to runoff

Shawn Williams and Eddie Thompson will face off in a Nov. 8 runoff election for McComb’s vacant Ward 4 selectman seat after leading a field of four candidates in a special election next Tuesday.
The seat became open when Ward 4 selectman John Bates died in September.

Amite schools stuck at ‘F’

Amite County School District Superintendent Don Cuevas publicly apologized to the school board Thursday after the district failed to shake its F rating.
“I apologize to the board that you’re having to keep an F this year,” he said. “I apologize for that. I was dumbfounded when I saw it.”

Officials question pace of audits

Two McComb selectmen expressed concerns about the city being four years behind in its audits when an invoice came before the board last week to pay a CPA from Jackson for helping with city finances.
The board unanimously approved paying Carolyn DuPre $4,200.
