Pike officials agree to help mow ditches in Osyka

Pike County supervisors agreed Friday to help another municipality mow grass in overgrown ditches.
Osyka Mayor Allen Applewhite asked the supervisors for help, and the board agreed to enter into an interlocal agreement to proceed with the work, with Osyka paying labor and fuel costs for use of county equipment and manpower.

4 running in special city election Tuesday

Four candidates are vying to fill the Ward 4 seat on the McComb city board in Tuesday’s special election.
The seat has been vacant since early September, when Selectman John Bates died a little over two months after he was sworn in.

Pike County burn ban extended through Nov. 1

Pike County’s burn ban has been extended through Nov. 1 as continued dry weather conditions prolong fire hazards.
Supervisors unanimously approved the extension on Friday. The burn ban has been in effect since Sept. 30 and was scheduled to end Saturday — if enough rain had fallen in the meantime.
