Nieman named North Pike’s top teacher

Beckie Nieman, a kindergarten teacher at North Pike Elementary School, is the North Pike School District’s Teacher of the Year.

North Pike Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ben Cox announced Nieman’s selection at the school district’s board of trustees meeting Thursday.

Nieman also is North Pike Elementary’s teacher of the year.

LIBERTY — An Amite County woman who said she was raped while she was an inmate at the Amite County Jail in 2010 is suing Sheriff Tim Perkins, the county board of supervisors, five unnamed deputies and the company that built the jail, court records show.
