Amite teacher faces assault charges

LIBERTY — A sixth-grade teacher at Amite County Elementary School faces assault charges involving two students after a probable cause hearing Monday in Amite County Circuit Court. Judge Forrest Al Johnson ruled there was sufficient cause to charge teacher Melissa Thompson with two counts of simple assault in the separate incidents.

A Pike County man is charged with murder in the Saturday morning shooting death of George Francis Andry Jr. of Magnolia.

Pike County sheriff’s deputies on Wednesday arrested Terry Lynn Morgan, 41, 8143 Magnolia-Holmesville Road, on the charge after he came to the sheriff’s office to meet with investigators.

Teen dies after wreck

A 17-year-old McComb girl died Monday from injuries she received in a one-car accident Saturday night on Highway 570 West in Amite County.

The accident occurred about 8:33 about a half mile west of Fenn Road in Smithdale, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

McComb architect Steve Cox presented preliminary plans for the 10,800-square foot, $1.1 million building.
