Bears split at Gulf Coast

The Southwest Bears baseball team split a road doubleheader Wednesday with Mississippi Gulf Coast, falling 5-2 in the opener before coming back to pick up a 10-8 victory in the nightcap.

Southwest (15-19, 4-8) remains alive for a possible playoff slot with the split.

Southwest softball sweeps Jones Co.

The Southwest Lady Bears softball team ended a five-game losing streak Friday with a doubleheader sweep of host Jones County 6-2 and 12-0. Southwest now stands at 10-8 overall and 3-7 in the MACJC South Division. They will host Mississippi Gulf Coast this afternoon in games that were postponed from Saturday. Game 1 is set for 1.

The Southwest Mississippi Community College baseball team picked up a crucial South Division win Wednesday as they split a home doubleheader with Pearl River. The Bears picked up a 5-4 come-from-behind, extra-inning win in the finale after falling 5-0 in the opener.

SMCC swept in baseball, softball

The Southwest Mississippi Community College baseball team opened its South Division campaign on a down note Tuesday as they lost a twinbill to visiting East Central by scores of 13-8 and 7-0.

The losses dropped Southwest to 10-12 on the season and 0-2 in the division, while East Central moved to 13-11 and 2-0.
