SENATOBIA — As head coach Brent Harris put it, Monday night “was a tale of two halves” for the Southwest Lady Bears as they opened their 2013-14 basketball season with a 73-62 loss on the road at Northwest Mississippi Community College. SENATOBIA — Trailing virtually the entire first half, the Southwest Bears withstood the pressures of playing at always-tough Northwest Mississippi and came away with a season-opening, 91-88 win Monday night.

The Bears return to the court Thursday when they make their home debut against Bishop State with tipoff set for 7:15 p.m.

Despite the efforts of tailback Chris Jones, the Southwest Bears suffered a 31-10 defeat to No. 6 Jones County Thursday night in their final home game of the season.

Jones, a freshman from Tylertown, carried the ball 25 times for 211 yards and a touchdown.
