Southwest takes 1 of 2 from Holmes

The Southwest Mississippi Community College baseball team split a home MACJC doubleheader with the Holmes Bulldogs Saturday, claiming a 14-13 victory in the opener before falling 17-7 in the nightcap.

With the split, the Bears moved to 12-5 (2-2) on the season while Holmes moved to 11-9 (2-2).

SMCC softball team sweeps Pearl River 2-1, 1-0

With timely hits and a pair of excellent pitching performances in both games, the Southwest Mississippi Community College softball team picked up two big wins Wednesday afternoon with a 2-1 and 1-0 MACJC conference sweep of the visiting Pearl River Lady Wildcats. Game 2 went eight innings.

Four Bears receive postseason honors

Terrell Miller, Lafayette Rutledge, Emanuel Thompson and LeDerrius Simmons, all members of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges state champions Southwest Bears, have received post-season honors from the league and the National Junior College Athletic Association.

SMCC softball drops 2 at home to Jones County 9-1, 6-0

The Southwest Mississippi Community College softball team dropped a pair of MACJC softball games to the visiting Jones County Lady Bobcats on Tuesday afternoon, falling 9-1 in the opener and 6-0 in the nightcap. Game 1 ended after six innings.
