Southwest’s Coney to play for Faulkner

After two successful seasons with Southwest Mississippi Community College, outfielder L.D. Coney has signed a scholarship to continue his collegiate career with the Eagles of Faulkner University in Montgomery, Ala.

Coney is the son of Shanta and James Coney.

SMCC’s Aldridge, Buchanan reunite with Cornfoot at Louisiana College

Southwest Mississippi Community College baseball teammates Walt Aldridge and Jacob Buchanan have signed scholarships to continue their collegiate careers at Louisiana College.

They join teammate Duncan Cornfoot who has also signed with the Pineville, La., institution.

Bears named academic team of year

The Southwest Mississippi Community College men’s basketball team claimed the program’s first state championship in 53 years. The Bears can now add two more titles to their list of accomplishments for 2015-16.

SMCC ends season with split

Southwest Mississippi Community College split its season-ending doubleheader with East Mississippi Tuesday night in Scooba, winning a wild opener 15-14 in 11 innings before dropping the finale 6-5.

The Bears finished the campaign at 23-21 overall and 12-16 in the MACJC. East Mississippi ended the year at 16-28, 12-16.
