Shooting under investigation

Two people are in custody in connection with a shooting that wounded two others in McComb on Thursday evening.
Markeyceuna Varnado, 25, and Derrick Isaac, 32, have been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and shooting into an occupied vehicle in connection with the shooting.

Some jail lawsuits closed

Most of the cases against Pike County and its former sheriff over claims of deplorable conditions and overcrowding have been dismissed in federal court.
Court records show 30 cases filed either against the county, former Sheriff James Brumfield and some of his administrators or both.

New fire station expected to lower insurance rates

A new fire station that will be built on the campus of Southwest Mississippi Community College is expected to lower fire ratings for the college and residents in the vicinity, Summit’s fire chief said.
