Gazzo elected in Pike District 4; Taplin, Accardo nominated in District 3

Jake Gazzo will join the Pike County Board of Supervisors in January.

In Tuesday’s Republican runoff election against Marlin Bass for the District 4 seat being vacated by Luke Brewer, Gazzo won 974-781 over Marlin Bass, a 55-44 margin.

Brewer did not seek re-election.

City gets storm debris update

McComb selectmen heard the latest payment requests from companies working on storm cleanup and got updates on timelines and spending Tuesday night.

Public Works Director Alice Barnes presented the billed amounts from each of the three companies working with the city on cleanup from the May 9 tornado and windstorm.

Johnson says he has the right to keep tabs on city employees

McComb Selectman Devante Johnson asserted Tuesday that, as a member of the city board, he has the right and duty to monitor city employees and their work.

That claim came after he asked why Human Resources Director Donjurea Davis was told to call him to set up a meeting to talk about remarks by Johnson that appeared in the newspaper.
