New radios sought for Walthall firefighters

TYLERTOWN — Walthall County Fire Coordinator Jimmy Boyd asked supervisors Feb. 7 to consider using federal funds to buy state network-compatible radios for the county’s fire departments.
“We can’t talk across county lines,” Boyd said. “It’s something we’re going to have to do, but we don’t have the money to do it.”

South Pike has a food fight

Parents and students of South Pike High School are continuing to level charges of substandard food at the school’s cafeteria.
Superintendent Dr. Donna Scott said for an article in Wednesday’s edition that incidences of moldy food on Monday were a one-time mistake contained in prepackaged items.

North Pike enrollment drops during pandemic

North Pike Superintendent Dr. Jay Smith noted a very human toll on the district since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic at Thursday’s board meeting.
Enrollment on Feb. 3, 2019, was 2,416. The same day this year, the district board’s meeting day, enrollment stood at 2,197.
