Take precautions to beat the bug

Area health care workers are seeing patients daily who have the swine flu, or the Novel H1N1 virus, but so far the cases have been fairly mild.

Lisa Miller, emergency room nurse manager at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center, said patients have been coming to Southwest since late August with flu-like symptoms.

Pike County Fair opens next week

Fall is almost here, and the Pike County Fair will be in full swing Sept. 9 to 12.

But patrons who are accustomed to going to the fair on Tuesday night will have to wait another day

Because of scheduling problems with the midway ride provider, the fair will begin on Wednesday, the 9th.
