LIBERTY — Nearly 90 percent of third-graders at Amite County Elementary School passed the mandatory literacy test on the first try this year.
Superintendent Scotty Whittington told school district trustees last week that all but nine students cleared the state-required third-grade reading gate to advance to fourth grade.
