Taplin leaving S. Pike in 2016

The South Pike School District is back in the search for a new superintendent following Dr. Estes Taplin’s announcement Thursday that he would retire next spring.

Taplin gave no comment as school board president Dr. Luke Lampton announced the superintendent’s decision to leave the district on April 29, 2016.

Osyka gearing up for Fall Fest on Saturday

Osyka will be kicking up its heels this weekend as the Osyka Civic Club presents its 35th Annual Osyka Fall Festival, set for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Osyka Park.

Gospel Sunday will begin at 1 p.m. with local churches presenting music. A brief service by the Rev. Joe Weaver, pastor of Osyka Baptist Church, will follow.

ASC comes back to win 30-27

The Amite School Center Rebels opened up district play Friday night hosting the Trinity Episcopal Saints from Natchez, and it was a barn burner as ASC scored with 0:10 remaining in the fourth quarter to win 30-27.
