Amite supervisors hear library funding request

LIBERTY — Amite County supervisors Monday considered a budget request, approved a recycling grant application and authorized an engineering project for the county.

Darlene Morgan, director of the Pike-Amite-Walthall Library System, is requesting $94,970 from the county for the 2014-2015 fiscal year.

LIBERTY — It’s becoming increasingly common to see license plates from Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas in the parking lots of Liberty restaurants, grocery stores and convenience stations in town as business owners are noticing the economic impact of the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale activity in Amite County.

Navy Petty Officer Wallace finds 'best friend' as Master-at-Arms

Like many military members, McComb native Petty Officer 3rd Class Nicholas Wallace often speaks in acronyms.

Far away from his hometown of McComb, Wallace now patrols the Pacific Northwest with a specially trained canine named Haro. To Wallace, though, Haro is a MWD, or military working dog.
