Mayor’s election looms

McComb’s next leader will be determined in Monday’s general election, and the winner will succeed Mayor Zach Patterson, who did not seek re-election.

Republican Whitney Rawlings announced his intentions for the position more than a year ago, while Democrat Warren Ellis Gilmore filed shortly before the qualifying deadline on Sept. 2.

Water problems put city in state of emergency

McComb selectmen declared a city-wide state of emergency Tuesday after an aerator at the city’s water treatment plant malfunctioned, reducing the capacity to treat drinking water and leaving McComb a possible $348,900 bill to replace the device.
