City to revisit I-55 frontage road

GLOSTER — A Gloster man is in the Amite County jail held without bond after allegedly taking a swing at Gloster Mayor Billy Johnson Tuesday morning.

Adrian Bell, 35, of Gloster, is charged with simple assault on a public official.

Fatal fire probe ongoing

A man who was found dead in a Fernwood house fire on Saturday night had suffered a busted sternum and cracked skull, and his uncle reportedly heard gunshots before the fire, authorities reported.

Gerald D. Jones, 31, was found alone inside his charred house at 1123 Fred Dillon Road.

Amite officials probe burglary spree

The Amite County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a string of recent burglaries in the Gillsburg area near Osyka and the Louisiana state line.

Investigator Danny Meaux said there have been seven related burglaries in the county since Nov. 14, and authorities have a suspect in mind.
