Reducing, reusing

Thanks to a competitive grant and local funds, Pike County will soon have a new recycling program.

Along with groups in Florida, New York and Pennsylvania, Keep Pike County Beautiful was one of two Mississippi Keep America Beautiful affiliates awarded a $10,000 Think Green recycling grant from Waste Management.

Market makeover

McComb Market’s grand re-opening Friday follows months of renovations to the grocery store.

Most of the $750,000 renovation went to replacing all refrigeration units in the store with more energy-efficient versions and added photos of local places and railroad scenes.

The market also added a fresh sushi section.

McComb water rates, fees rising

McComb water and sewer rates are rising along with capital improvement fees to cover the city’s expected spending.

The board of selectmen voted Tuesday to increase water and sewer rates by 4 percent and capital improvement fees by $3. The rates are effective Nov. 1.
