Eagles can’t fend off Cougars in late loss

MONTICELLO — The South Pike Eagles came to Lawrence County eyeing their third win of the season, but left with a 29-28 loss to the homestanding.

Trailing 28-22 late in the contest, Lawrence County quarterback Dalton Hillaird led a seven-play, 71-yard scoring drive to salvage a homecoming win for the Cougars.

South Pike coasts to second consecutive win

The South Pike Eagles won their second consecutive game Friday night, 36-7 over Columbia at Colee Field.

The Eagles improved to 2-5 overall and 2-0 in Region 7-4A play.

“I’m proud of them,” said first-year head coach Willie Brown. “They’re playing hard and improving more and more.”

South Pike picks up first win

The South Pike Eagles notched their first win of the season in a 34-14 rout of Crystal Springs Friday.

The Eagles (1-5) started the season a little slow, but they have found some relief.

Though they lost their first five games in a row, the last two losses set up Friday night’s win.
