SMCC clinches playoff position

The Southwest Mississippi Community College Lady Bears assured themselves a playoff spot with their 67-63 win over Gulf Coast on Monday night.

The Southwest men lost 87-69.

The Lady Bears held a six-point advantage in the final minute, but Gulf Coast whittled it down to two with 14 seconds left on the clock.

McComb makes South State: North Pike loses in overtime

McComb’s Shanekqua Bibbs scored all of her 17 points in the first half, including 11 in the opening quarter, as the Lady Tigers won their first-round playoff game 68-47 over Pearl River Central.

McComb will face the winner of tonight’s Northeast Lauderdale-Moss Point game on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Northeast Jones.

Bears keep ‘looking forward’: SMCC takes three of four over weekend

The Southwest Mississippi Community College baseball team won three of its four games over the weekend. On Sunday, the Bears held on for a 7-6 win in the opener against Coahoma, before the defense fell apart in their 8-1 loss to the Tigers.
