McComb, North Pike win openers

At the rain-delayed McComb Classic, McComb beat South Pike 14-0 behind Zach Rowell’s four innings of perfect pitching, while North Pike scored late to beat Brookhaven 5-2.

Rowell only needed 42 pitches to retire the South Pike hitters over four innings.

McComb takes second in 6-4A

JACKSON — The District 6-4A basketball finals didn’t disappoint, but were definitely disappointing for the McComb Tigers.

The girls lost 72-68 in double overtime to Forest Hill with the officials taking a leading role in the outcome, while the boys, playing two regulars short, lost 54-51 to Forest Hill.

Bears sweep opener

The Southwest Mississippi Community College softball team swept its opener Thursday afternoon over East Mississippi.

The Lady Bears won 11-3 and 6-0 to take their first two games.

Lady Bears win third straight

The Southwest Mississippi Community College Lady Bears kept on their winning ways Thursday, beating Pearl River 59-43.

The men fell 75-63 to the Wildcats.

Southwest has been in the hunt for the final playoff spot on the women’s side. A win on Monday over Gulf Coast will make that a reality.
