The Parklane Pioneers had a sendoff for the three seniors on Thursday night.

Parklane hit six home runs in seven innings at the plate in its 14-1 and 13-2 victories over the East Rankin Patriots.

New beginnings

McComb High School unveiled its pick for head football coach on Wednesday.

Malcolm Jones, a four-year starter in his playing days at Alcorn State and former head coach at Gentry High School, will be the first African-American head football coach at McComb.

The school board must approve his hire.

Parklane wins, but the math catches up

The Parklane Pioneers beat East Rankin Academy 6-0 on Tuesday in a rain-shortened game, but the Pioneers were eliminated from the playoff race with wins by Jackson Prep and Madison-Ridgeland Academy.

For Parklane to have made the playoffs, the Pioneers needed either Prep or MRA to get swept in their three-game series this week.

Sitting around for a weekend waiting for the phone to ring might seem longer than the time Glover Quin had spent becoming an NFL-caliber athlete.

North Pike High School and Southwest Mississippi Community College alum Glover Quin was taken by the Houston Texans with the 12th pick in the fourth round of the NFL Draft on Sunday.
