When the night has a thousand eyes

One of the strangest nighttime experiences I have ever had outdoors happened on a hike with the Boy Scouts along the Black Creek National Wild and Scenic River in southeast Mississippi.
The hike stretched longer than planned, and dusk slowly faded into darkness beneath the tall pines and hardwoods.

Hard for Mississippians to adjust to dry climates
