S. Pike OKs budget; tax hike likely

Tax hikes remain imminent for property owners in the South Pike School District, as board members approved a $17.2 million budget Thursday.

The budget, which carries a 4 percent revenue increase and a projected $1.3 million deficit, passed unanimously, minus a vote from board member Luke Lampton, who was absent.

Pike County sheriff’s deputies recently arrested two people who are allegedly part of a seasonal crime trend throughout the South — air conditioner thefts.

On Monday, deputies booked 32-year-old Travis Mitchell, 2120 Dixie Road, Brookhaven, and 28-year-old Adrianna Mack, 1052 Herman Allen Road, Magnolia, on charges of petit larceny.

After thieves recently struck a coin machine at the McComb Bowling Center, new details have emerged showing the theft was likely a coordinated heist conducted by four individuals.

Police responded to calls about a theft on July 20 at the bowling alley located in McComb’s Pike Center Mart.
