A careless mistake may be to blame for a fire that damaged a house in the Baertown community Friday.

Firefighters were dispatched at 12:07 p.m. and arrived two minutes later to the home of Sandra Walker, 303 Holmes Ave., near C.C. Bryant Drive just south of Presley Boulevard.

A 4-year-old girl died and two other people were hurt after their car ran off the road and struck a tree Thursday evening in Lincoln County.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol responded around 6:45 to Highway 51 near Forest Trail Northeast, just north of Brookhaven.
