Pike authorities investigate Friday shooting

The Pike County Sheriff's Department is investigating a shooting that took place around midnight on Thursday in the Pleasant Grove community.

Laxavier Addison, 19, of Gibson Road, just east of Fernwood, was shot once in the lower back.

A fatal traffic accident in Walthall County on Thursday marked the first death in southwest Mississippi related to winter storm Leon and at least the sixth statewide.

James B. Simonton, 62, of Florence, died in a single-vehicle accident just outside of Tylertown on Highway 48 about a half mile east of Kirklin Road.

Carolyn Sue Johnston, 1043 Haygood Circle, southeast of McComb, faces a charge of grand larceny.

Man charged with Pike break-in and assault

A Brookhaven man allegedly broke into a woman’s home twice on Saturday night and assaulted her in front of her 13-year-old child, authorities said.

Pike County sheriff’s deputies charged 33-year-old Dedric Perkins, 118 Short St., Brookhaven, with two counts of burglary and one count of simple assault.
