McComb native slain in Florida shooting

A McComb native was shot and killed in a double homicide Saturday in Panama City, Florida.

Xavier Buckler, 23, of Panama City and formerly of McComb, and Marqueze McGhee, 25, were shot and killed during an altercation at a gas station around 2 a.m. Saturday, according to the Panama City News Herald.

Magnolia to set election

The Magnolia city board plans to meet today to officially accept Mayor Melvin Harris’ resignation and set a date for a special election to fill the vacancy.

Alderman-at-large Mercedes Ricks, who is mayor pro tem, said the meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m.
