LIBERTY — Citing the lack of a speedy trial, Defense attorney Jacob Ray said Thursday he plans to appeal the 20-year sentence Lawrence Byrd received last week in Amite County Circuit Court in the 2011 stabbing death of his neighbor Reginald Alexander.

Man gets 20 years in Amite killing

LIBERTY — An Amite County man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison in the 2011 stabbing death of a neighbor.

Lawrence Byrd, 41, 5508 Irene Road, Summit, was found guilty of manslaughter in a trial that wrapped up Thursday in Amite County Circuit Court.
