City plans to renew talks on inspections, privilege tax licenses

A proposed ordinance that would force rental property owners to purchase a privilege tax license and have their properties inspected annually is not dead, despite the McComb city board voting it down Tuesday.

“We are going to revisit it,” Mayor Whitney Rawlings said Thursday.

Scam using Sheriff's Dept. phone number in Amite County

The Amite County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents about a scam circulating using the sheriff’s office’s phone numbers and names.

Investigator Danny Meaux said someone with a foreign accent has contacted at least one person using what appeared to be a number from the sheriff’s department.

Apt. tax plan nixed

Board denies R.E.A.L. request to move to Jr. High building

The South Pike school board on Wednesday denied the Reaching Every Aspect of Life program’s request to move from the Fernwood School to the old South Pike Junior High campus, despite the claim of sewer and mold problems.

The board voted unanimously, with trustee Dr. Luke Lampton absent, to deny the program’s move to Magnolia.
