Southwest Mississippi Community College assistant men’s basketball coach Thomas Gray was hired to the same position at the University of Tennessee at Martin earlier this week. Gray, 27, will depart for UT-Martin after three seasons as an assistant at Southwest.

Carr Young pitched his best game of the year, and the Parklane Pioneers moved into first place in the MAIS South Division with a 5-2 win over Oak Forest in Game 3 of a three-game series Thursday night. The Pioneers lost Game 2 Thursday afternoon 5-1 before recovering in the nightcap to win the series.

Simmons elects to stay home, plays for Bears
