The Parklane Pioneers closed their 2013-14 season Wednesday night with a 58-42 loss to Magnolia Heights School in the opening round of the MAIS AAA tournament at Madison-Ridgeland Academy.
The loss eliminated the Pioneers from post-season play after winning one of three games in the AAA Division I tournament last week.
Senior Brady Lea, competing in his final game donning the Pioneers’ red and white, led Parklane.
“Brady Lea played extremely tough,” Parklane head coach Chris Weaver said. “He seemed like he was scoring every time down the floor for us.”
Wednesday’s loss was also the final game of Weaver’s coaching career. The Parklane alum said before the season that it would be his last as he transitions into a full-time career in the ministry. Weaver played as Parklane and was an assistant coach for nearly a decade before taking over as head coach three years ago.
Despite falling short of their ultimate goal, the Pioneers were not shaking their heads after the loss to Magnolia Heights.
“We started slow this season but the guys never quit. We gathered ourselves and were able to do some good things,” Weaver said while reflecting on the season. “I told my guys of 109 teams only 25 or 30 made it this far, and we were one of them.”
Parklane rallied from a 2-6 start to the season to finish with an overall record of 13-13 (including a 1-3 record this postseason).
